About Chelmsford City Racecourse
Chelmsford City Racecourse re-opened its doors in 2015. Originally called Great Leighs Racecourse and built in 2008, it was the first new racecourse since Taunton opened in 1927! However, the Racecourse went into administration in 2009. Happily, racing resumed in 2015 and Chelmsford Racecourse has been going strong ever since.
While horse racing is the star of the show, Chelmsford City Racecourse also hosts a number of non-racing events. For example, the second annual Family Fun Day, this year on 14th September. Organised in support of Havens Hospice, a local charity, this circus themed event makes a great day out. Food is available in the family-friendly Fairwood Restaurant. Enjoy entertainment by circus performers as well as the jockeys and thoroughbreds! Similarly, in August the Racecourse hosted The Annual Classical. A collaboration between the Ministry of Sound and the London Concert Orchestra, the concert offered an orchestral reimagining of some of the biggest dance hits of all time. Clearly, Chelmsford City Racecourse has a lot on offer. So, if you’re planning on visiting the Racecourse soon, you need to find great hotels near Chelmsford Racecourse.
