Stansted B&B for Winter Walks

Stansted B&B for winter walks

Ice thins at the edges first and is a good sign of the coming spring

Throughout the year there are many reasons travellers visit Great Dunmow and the surrounding areas. Some guests come for an event such as a wedding or the annual V Festival, while others are simply on their way to Stansted and prefer the a cozy place to stay the night before they leave or upon their arrival. For others, Great Dunmow and the Essex countryside is the destination; such as those who visit for the Easter holiday and wander through the Easter Villages taking in the beautiful spring scenery and medieval churches. While spring is certainly a wonderful time to visit, our corner of Essex offers plenty to see during the winter months as well.

Winter Walks Around Harwood House Stansted B&B

For guests who want to experience winter in a more rural setting and aren’t afraid to bundle up, Harwood House is the perfect base for some of the area’s best walking trails and paths. The nearby Hatfield Forest provides a glimpse into a medieval hunting forest once used by kings and nobles and still has fallow deer descended from the herd of King Henry I roaming the park. The Hatfield Forest is a quick 15 minute drive from Harwood House, but a more adventurous way of getting there is via a popular walking path which happens to run through Great Dunmow itself, not far from the steps of our Stansted B&B. The Flitch Way is a 15 mile route stretching from Braintree to Bishop’s Stortford. Once a railway line, it has been converted to a scenic path perfect for walking, jogging and cycling. In addition to these two trails there are countless more nearby with varying degrees of difficulty and all offering beautiful countryside scenery.
