Locally made sausages to celebrate British Sausage Week 2014.

It’s no secret that Harwood House Stansted B&B loves everything local. Especially the bountiful supply of local meats and produce which guests will find carefully prepared every morning in our dining room. At every opportunity we join in local celebrations of this bounty and offer travellers a taste of what is in season from the farms and artisans right here in Essex. Earlier this year we participated in Farmhouse Breakfast Week with Harwood House’s Breakfast for Locavores, in August we celebrated International Bacon Day by featuring a trio of bacon from pigs raised on local farms, and most recently we took part in British Egg Week with a new way to prepare eggs every day. This November is no different because we have honoured British Sausage Week 2014 with our own sausage celebration at Harwood House Stansted B&B!

Local Sausage at Harwood House Stansted B&B for British Sausage Week 2014

British Sausage Week 2014 is a celebration of the taste, quality and diversity of the British banger and happens every year. This year the festivities took place November 3 through November 9 and featured a retailer competition and a home sausage maker competition. The seven day event was lead by Phil Vickery, ex England rugby star and sausage aficionado. Anyone that knows Harwood House knows that we love joining in on the fun. We decided to showcase several award winning Essex meats such as the Broad Oak Sausages from Bishop’s Stortford, as well as sausages from the farms of Prior’s Hall in Lindsell, Wick’s Manor in Maldon, and Great Garnett’s in Barnston. The British Sausage Week 2014 celebration harmonises with Harwood’s localvore philosophy and our commitment to featuring local produce.

Stansted B&B With Locally-Sourced Breakfasts

Our commitment to local produce in Essex isn’t bound by local events like British Sausage Week 2014. We celebrate our beautiful countryside and what it has to offer every day, year round with our locally-sourced breakfasts. Co-owner and chef, Ian has trained at Leith’s School of Food and Wine and lovingly prepares local fare for guests to enjoy at private tables. Not only do our sausages come from just a few miles away, but our eggs and bacon hail from local farms, and our jams and marmalades are locally hand made. If you are travelling through Stansted on business or simply visiting Essex on holiday, Harwood House provides award-winning accommodations and a fabulous local breakfast for our guests. Feel free to book your stay online or give us a ring.
