International Bacon Day 2015

international-bacon-day-2015

It’s no secret that one of our guests’ favourite things about staying at Harwood House is our delicious hand-crafted breakfasts. Every morning co-owner and chef, Ian, lovingly creates wonderful meals made to order, which our guests enjoy at private tables overlooking our beautiful garden. While Ian’s skill in the kitchen is undeniable, it all starts with the locally sourced ingredients as well as the house made jams and marmalades. Almost all of our meats and produce come from the surrounding farms, giving us an opportunity to share the bounty of Essex with our guests year round. While we believe that every part of our breakfasts are important, this time of year we like to focus on what we consider the quintessential breakfast meat: bacon, in honour of International Bacon Day 2015.

International Bacon Day 2015 at Harwood House

Every year around this time we like to showcase different bacon that comes from local farms in celebration of International Bacon Day. Great Dunmow has a rich history related to bacon that culminates in the Dunmow Flitch trials which are held every four years, a tradition dating back to 1104. Needless to say, the nearly thousand year old tradition has had a great impact on the fine quality of the bacon produced in this area. Each farm has their own way of curing the meat, creating different flavour profiles. This year, Harwood House compared a number of bacons including locally produced rashers from Wicks Manor in Maldon and Priors Hall Farm in Lindsell. Each bacon is unique and sure to please even the most discerning bacon lover and Chef Ian is excited to offer these little delights to our guests. For the second year running, our house bacon took the winning title!

Locally Sourced Breakfast All Year Round

Regardless of the time of year, guests will always find the best breakfast with the finest ingredients from local farms. Our sausages and eggs also come from area producers whose quality is second to none. In addition to our fabulous breakfasts, guests are also treated to recently refurbished rooms, award winning service and those travelling through Stansted can take advantage of our Park and Fly or bespoke Taxi service. If you are planning a trip to Great Dunmow for any reason, we’d love to show you the beauty and bounty of Essex. You can easily book online and feel free to ring us with any questions you might have.
