Harwood House Stansted Supports Quality Local Meat Producers

It’s difficult to say what the best part of staying at Harwood House Stansted B&B might be. Guests rave about the beautiful scenery, award winning accommodations, and the convenience of our Park & Fly service. All of which we are delighted to offer our guests and proud that it has earned us a number one spot on TripAdvisor and a four star rating by the globally recognized AA hotel accreditation scheme. But in honour of International Bacon Day on August 30th, Harwood House’s carefully prepared and locally sourced breakfast is foremost on our mind.

Great Dunmow’s Time-Honoured Bacon Tradition

international-bacon-day-harwood-house Great Dunmow, Harwood’s home, has a long and distinguished history when it comes to bacon. The Dunmow Flitch Trials is an ancient tradition held every four years in which a side of bacon is awarded to a couple who’ve “not wished themselves unmarried for 12 months and a day”. A fine prize indeed considering the meat comes from the fabulous offerings that our part of Essex provides. Although the next Flitch Trials is not until July of 2016, Harwood House will be honouring this distinguished practice as well as Bacon Day the entire week beginning August 30th with a trio of bacon from pigs reared on local farms. The meat from Wicks Manor in Maldon, Great Garnetts in Barnston, and Priors Hall Farm in Lindsell; all with their unique qualities, are sure to please the most discerning bacon aficionado. Co-owner and chef Ian is thoroughly excited to prepare these special treats for our guests. In other words, when it comes to bacon, Great Dunmow is the place to be. Which rasher will come out king of the pigs? Which little piggy will cry ‘winner winner winner!’ all the way home? Check our Facebook page next week for the blind bacon tasting results!
